I read on the New York Times website that Starbucks is now amongst the raft of companies to jump aboard the latest technology craze, smartphone payments. I read this not long after I’d been to the Apple store to buy a new cable for my phone, I was able to pay for it simply using my phone and apple ID, no credit cards or cash!
I find the idea that we will soon be able to pay for all manner of things simply using our mobile phones amazing! Being a serial wallet misplacer and pin number forgetter, this is one advancement in technology that I feel will come to my aid many times.
Sitting in the cab on my way to work I began to think…what if this new form of payment could be even simpler? Perhaps incorporated into an everyday accessory… a pair of cufflinks maybe?
Upon entering the office in a rush of excitement, I gathered my first class design team into the boardroom,
“Pay with your cufflinks!” I blurted out, unable to keep my brilliant idea to myself any longer. There were a few murmurs around the room, mostly “what’s” and a lot of puzzled looks. “Lets make a pair of cufflinks that you can use to pay for things instead of using cash or cards” I clarified, eliciting a lot of laughter and a few enquiries into the state of my well-being.
After a rather lengthy discussion about the benefits of this technology and the logistical problems faced(referred to as ‘nightmares’ by the non-believers), we decided that if this technology ever does become available we will create the world’s finest pair of ‘smart cufflinks’. They will allow you to pay for anything you want, groceries, Aston’s, yachts…
