Having being invited to spend the opening day of Royal Ascot in the privileged Royal Enclosure I find myself in a quandary about what to wear. Obviously I will conform to the required standard that dictates men are to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat and tie, with a top hat and black shoes. But what I’m really debating is which accessories are appropriate to wear to the Royal Ascot races?
I will be among the first race-goers taking advantage of the new Ascot Express train which runs from London’s Waterloo station straight to Royal Ascot, so perhaps my train cufflinks would be a great way to accessorise?
Obviously I also have the traditional racing cufflinks to choose from, including horse head cufflinks, stirrup and saddle cufflinks. It’s also hard to miss the opportunity to wear my hand painted crystal horse’s head cufflinks– they always draw lots of compliments.
No Ascot worthy outfit would be complete without a pocket square, I have already chosen this silk pocket square from Turnbull & Asser. Being a beautiful shade of sky blue it will be perfect for this summer racing event.
And to complete my race day look, I think I will wear my favourite gold signet ring. All that’s left is to actually decide which pair of my many cufflinks to wear…
