It’s nearly that time of year when you vow to cut back on the chocolate, sign back up to the gym and visit your grandmother more often!
According to The Daily Mail just ‘one in 11 of us stick to our new year’s resolutions for six months’, with 40% of us giving up after just two weeks!
With this in mind, we have put together five achievable New Year’s resolutions.
1) Improve your work-life balance
Make it your resolution to question whether that email or report can wait until the morning. Whilst you may love your job, there may come a day when other things in your life will be lacking due to years of putting your career before anything else. Make the most of time with friends and family, enjoy your children whilst they are young and take advantage of the finer things in life!
2) Try something new
Make this the year that you do something you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t quite got round to. Jumping out of a plane, visiting America, cruising the Caribbean or going back to school, make 2014 the year you finally did it!
3) Make a career move
Whether you dread getting up for work in the mornings or if you feel you haven’t reached your full potential, explore the possibilities of promotion or a career change. Resolve to be more ambitious in 2014 and look into that career change you have been dreaming of or summon up the courage to speak to your boss about personal development opportunities.
4) Home improvements
That crack in the ceiling which always bothers you when you take a bath or that one room in the house which hasn’t been decorated in years, now is the time to make those improvements. It’s amazing how much satisfaction can be gained from making those little changes, and it’s a great excuse to have friends round to admire your handy work!
5) Find a cause
Whether it’s volunteering at the local community centre, switching to organic products or supporting the conservation of bumble bees find a cause that is close to your heart and fund-raise, promote and volunteer to help the cause. As well as the satisfaction you will get for helping the cause, you will also gain a hobby and a new interest which can enhance your life in so many ways!
